Dear Greyhound Friends,

On our Events Calendar you will see that we will no longer be allowed to participate in Meet & Greets in any PetSmart stores.  While a minor conflict between a local store manager and a GFNJ volunteer may have been "the last straw," I want to let you know that the real reason for our dismissal is a corporate marketing policy instituted by PetSmart a few years ago.

About 3 years ago PetSmart instituted an "in-store adoption program," and began pressuring rescue groups hosting Meet & Greets to do in-store adoptions and to give them your name, your address, your phone number and your E-mail address.  We have never agreed to participate and have never given the company any adopter's information.  An offer to supply the names and tattoo numbers from the dogs' ears or find another compromise was rejected by the company.

The GFNJ mission is to rescue greyhounds.  Additionally, we take our responsibilities to our adopters very seriously and will never release your personal or financial information to a third party.

We have now been determined to be "not a good match for the company" - as stated to me several times during a phone conversation with a PetSmart corporate employee.

I will not try to influence where anyone shops. There are so many reputable, consumer friendly pet stores to choose from, though, that I will no longer be buying products for my 11 dogs, 4 cats, and hedgehog at any PetSmart store.
