About Elsie

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Color: White and Black

Elsie was relinquished almost 2 months ago along with her "brother" Gus through no fault of theirs. Elsie was in extreme pain and couldn't walk. She was immediately taken to NorthStar where she was diagnosed with a severly dislocated hip. She has spent the past months in a hobble to keep her hips stable. With great success, she has been taken out of the hobble and needs only to be leash walked for 4 more weeks and then she should be "as good as new".  Through all of this Elsie has been a real trooper and never complained. She is happy, friendly, loves people and other dogs and most likely does not need to be with another greyhound although certainly could.  We are looking for a foster home or adoptive home for Elsie who will leash walk her for at least 4 weeks from the end of April through May. Elsie is 8 years old.  If you can help Elsie, please call Linda at 732 356 4370 to discuss.

ORIGNAL POSTINGS

BWG Maple is a beautiful and very petite girl--she was described by the volunteers as "dainty." She looks to people and other greyhounds for guidance as she is a little unsure of herself. She would do best in the company of another greyhound. She is submissive and takes a little time to become secure in her new environment. The folks in Florida described her as: "She likes to be part of whatever you are doing. Her feelings get hurt easily as she is a pleaser."  Maple was 3 years old in September.
Foster Update 12/22/2016:

BWG Maple was born September 11, 2013. She is an adorable little black-and-white cowgirl.  She is very smart and curious and highly affectionate. Maple would like to be adopted into a home with another greyhound or dog of similar size. Here’s what you need to know about her and her sparkling personality:

  • Loves to snuggle; she truly enjoys doling out love.
  • Crates well while we are at work/school.
  • Gets along with our two male greyhounds (a goofy 8-year-old and a 12-year-old elder statesman). She also gets along with a male greyhound we are also fostering (WW McScore, called “Score”); he is very sweet.
  • Does well with our dog-friendly kids, ages 11 and 15.
  • Is a bit too keen on our 3 cats and 1 kitten; we do not recommend her for a home with cats or other small animals
  • Mastered the stairs.
  • Walks beautifully on a leash and on our wood/tile/laminate flooring (the stairs are carpeted).
  • Eats well; has shown no food aggression.
  • Has not exhibited any space aggression. She often curls herself up with our other foster, Score, after he’s laid down on a dog bed … even though there are plenty of empty dog beds.
  • Travels well in the car.
  • She can be a little shy in new situations or with new people, but once she’s scoped out the new place or person, she warms right up and becomes more confident. She will make a fantastic “ambassadog.”
  • Initially, she had a couple of accidents in the house, but quickly learned the rules of living in a home.

Maple is learning not to “counter surf” (front paws on the counter to see what goodies may be there) and that the people bed is off limits. Luckily, her transition from the track environment to a domestic life of retirement in a home has been a smooth one; she caught on to all other “Do’s” and “Don’ts” quickly.

Maple is absolutely adorable and has much love to give; of this, she is quite generous. We enjoy fostering her as she is a true delight. She will bring warmth and an abundance of love to the adopter who brings her home.
