About Right on NRA (aka Melinda)

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Color: Red
Update: Melinda went to a home but was returned as the wife had allergies. Melinda is back with her foster mom and waiting again for her home.

WE'RE NOT IN KANSAS ANYMORE!
Right on NRA is a friendly, happy 9 year-old lady who was abandoned on a greyhound farm. She's a joy but not good with cats.

Foster Update:
Melinda is getting very comfortable with house living. She actually picked up a stuffy the other day and carried it around. I think she's getting the idea of play. No accidents in the house--what a good girl.
She runs after my 3 yr old pup (she's acting like my 3 yr old herself) and
they chase each other a little.
She's learned the luxury of a dog pool, knows the dog door, eats pretty
much what is put in front of her. She's very curious--like a puppy-life she never had.
She loves the sofa, especially if there's a human there to snuggle with.
She will crate with some
'encouragement' (push from behind) and she will cry for a short while but she does settle down and sleep. She sings when you come home and let her out.
She's having a good time running in my yard.
She's good on leash UNTIL she sees a critter and then you better have a good
hold of her leash. But once she reaches the end of the leash, she doesn't continue to struggle against it. She just stands, frozen, staring at
whatever got her started.
She rides really well, even jumps into my large SUV by herself.
She likes ice cream. Doesn't like liver. (sounds like a real human kid,
huh?)

She is just a joy to have. She would make a very good first, second or third greyhound.
Foster story:
"What do you get when you mix a greyhound and jello?
Melinda!

She draped herself on my lap last night..........hind end on one side,
front end on the other. In the middle on my lap was just jello, I literally had to pour her off my lap when it was time to go to bed."

8/3/2007 Foster Update--
Melinda has discovered stuffies and loves them. She will chase and return the toy, at least within 5 feet of you. She is starting to greet me at the door with a toy in her mouth (she is now out of the
crate........absolutely no problems whatsoever)

She'll go out the dog door with the toy and run and zig zag and just have a
terrific time. She's active and playful. She'll playbow and talk to you during play. She has had a 'puppy upper' (term that refers to an older adult dog acting like a silly puppy but with the smarts of an adult dog)

She plays well with the other four greys, but has the most fun with the
"young-un". Although Melinda is 9, she prefers to play with the foster's 3 yr old grey.

She likes a hug after you put her food bowl in front of her but before she
eats. (no food agression here).

She would be terrific with kids (the reference to a possible weak hind end
is gone. I think she just needed some good food and a little exercise)
just as long as they don't hold the leash on a walk.

Melinda will do best with a fenced yard to play in and either human or dog companionship during the day.
