Kennel Update 2/2008:  We have identified a kennel  and have put a bid on a small existing kennel.  We are in the process of developing plans to expand the number of kennel runs to comfortably accomadate our greyhounds and visiting potential adopters and guests.  Once the plans are completed, we will make a presentation to the township zoning board for variance approval. Wish us luck!  Greyhound Folks are the Best!   Thanks for your on-going support!!

Kennel Update 9/2008:

  GF Logo with Address

Dear Friends,

On September 2, 2008 the Delanco, New Jersey Zoning Board rejected our application to undertake renovations on a kennel which we were under contract to purchase with contingencies.  GFNJ appeared before the Board with engineering plans to add a small efficiency apartment above the kennel office so that the greyhounds would have on-site care day and night and to expand the kennel size.  While most Zoning Board members seemed in favor of the purchase throughout the process, they ultimately decided that GFNJ should make changes to the property in order to appease a newly built age-restricted community nearby. We felt that these changes, which included planting as many as 100 mature evergreen trees to act as a sound barrier, and reorienting the exercise area which would put the greyhounds in the full sun were neither a benefit to the greyhounds nor a responsible use of your donated funds.

While we did incur modest legal and engineering expenses we lost no money by bidding on the property and the search for a Greyhound Friends of New Jersey kennel continues.  New Jersey has very few affordable kennels for sale.  It would be wonderful if someone would donate land for our purposes -- 1 to 2  acres would be sufficient.  I hope you will contact me if you know of any property or land that might be suitable for donation or to purchase or a small "farmette" that might meet our needs.

In the meantime the Kennel Committee will continue the search as well as kennel fundraising. I am grateful for your past support and know that working together we will, one day, celebrate owning our own property.

Thank you for all you do for greyhounds.

 Kennel Update 11/2008:

November 1, 2008

Dear Greyhound Friend,

What a rollercoaster ride its been!  We read about a global financial crisis, bailouts and buy-ins and we wonder, "Where is this going?" Some things remain constant, though; grateful gazes, leaning hugs, kisses and even some smiles.  Sometimes the love from our adoring greyhounds can be the most comforting part of our day.

It is our commitment to retiring racers that keeps our expectation for a Greyhound Friends of New Jersey Kennel alive and the Kennel Fund growing.  As we continue to search for a property that will best fulfill the needs of our greyhounds, I am very happy to tell you that the same anonymous donor who kicked off last years appeal has again agreed to match 2008 donations to a total of $10,000.

Recently, on an internet rescue site, Greyhound Friends of New Jersey was commended as the single group that never turns away when help is needed, accepting dogs without imposing conditions.  It was a tribute that made me so proud of the work we do.  Special appreciation is due our wonderful fosters who offer temporary shelter as dogs recuperate from broken legs or broken spirits.  A GFNJ Kennel will provide a better environment for every greyhound that comes to us and will significantly aid in offering superior service to the Special Needs dogs.

I hope you will join our most generous benefactor and participate in the 2008 Greyhound Friends of New Jersey Kennel Fund Drive!

Please take a moment now to send your contribution in the enclosed envelope or make your

donation online through our secure website www.greyhoundfriendsnj.org.  Your investment is doubled and THEIR retirement secured.

Thank you, in advance, for your consideration and for all you do for greyhounds.

Sincerely,

Linda Lyman
