Ken and Christina Newarksi had made Deputy Dan quite comfortable and it's not a surprise his name would now be "Boss!" Ken and Christine write "Boss was adopted last August and he has brought such joy to our lives. He loves to be covered in his bed with Mr. Squirrel of course."
Zander practiced for Christmas with a crab at Dewey Beach in October and then perfected his package opening with Sassy in December.
Let's Make Music (now Maddie) looks pretty happy with new owners Sue and Kyle Daniw.A SPECIAL REUNION AT THE PICNIC Shaba (formerly Pa's Shaba) and Sasha (formerly Pa's Subject-"Flea") are littermates that were both adopted at the 2006 Spring Picnic. The Pinter Family adopted Sasha and Barb Laane & Todd Stevens adopted Shaba.
Shaba and Sasha met up at this year's picnic - coincidentally on their 5th birthdays! (They were born 5/20/02).

AND A SUCCESSFUL ADOPTION Light and Lively (now Missy) wearing a new collar, sleeping on a new GFNJ bed and living the good life...
AND ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL ADOPTION Kiowa Weeks (now Calvin) in his new home after the picnic (he looks pretty relaxed ...)
AND ONE MORE !!! Aljo Curious now rightly named Princess Butter Cup ( Butter Cup for short) is a favorite in the neighborhood. All the kids and dogs at the park want to play with her. She has even won over my grumpy fat cat Billy Bob. She has the kindest sweetest eyes, will do anything for a treat, and loves to ride in cars!

Christine Bongard adopted Sophie Blu (formerly Mesa Lana) in July of 06. Christine recently purchased a home specifically so Sophie could have a fenced in yard to run and play and swim in her very own doggie pool! Christine and Sophie couldn't be happier that they found each other

This is Henrietta (now called Portia), enjoying her first day of retirement.

Keagen (formerly Timothy) loves his new town...

Super Girl (Lulu) has settled nicely into her new home...

It's been a very busy August! Helen Twist became Jasmine and R and A Goodman became Zypher and can hardly be seen he's investigating his new yard so fast.

Sleeping beauties Grace and Tillie (formerly Defiance)

Volunteer, Rick Itterly helped Greyhound Friends welcome PETCO to Phillipsburg, NJ this month.

Hazel looks pretty happy since joining the Fagan Family in April.

Fern and Bill Dickey tell us about their "handsome" Hudson: "Hudson was AOL's pet of the day in 2001 and he's currently on www.youtube.com (search for "crazy greyhound.")
At 11 years old, we still walk over an hour a day and he plays and digs in the yard every day. He is the love of our life."
 Cathy, Susan and Simon have opened their hearts and home to a very lucky guy named Luke. Looks like the sea air agrees with him;

Nancy Sapanara shared this lovely picture of Kayla, formerly "Malleen," adopted August 2004, and Sierra, formerly "Just Plain Espy," adopted July 2005 enjoying their forever home. Thanks, Nancy, this is why we all do what we do!

Olivia is enjoying her first Spring in a forever home.

Lucky girl Lucy (formerly Disco Leader) was adopted by
Christine Zielinski and Jason Boulware at the Spring 2005 picnic...

GFNJ Helps Rescue 3 Southern Greys
NOTE: Mac and Studly have found their forever homes -
Dakota is in foster care and still looking...
We welcomed three very special new members to Greyhound Friends this weekend. A rescue "gone bad" in the South left many dogs filthy, starved and sick. We were able to help three healthy enough to travel this far thanks to emergency fosters, Terryl Jackson, Nancy Bowden, and Ellen Ganopoulos. In addition to our great fosters we thank Sherry Kilpatrick, who drove to North Carolina and picked up the dogs, and to our NJ transporters, Bill Brouillard and Maria Lutz.

Foster Terryl Jackson (holding Studly) flanked by Harlingen Veterinary Clinic Tech Kayla (with Dakota) and Bill Broullard (holding Mac) welcomed the dogs to New Jersey Saturday night. Kayla drew blood so that proper medical treatment can begin shortly. Terryl took Studly home while Dakota and Mac settled into Hay Hill Kennels for one last night before going into foster homes.

Foster Ellen Ganopoulos met her foster Mac Sunday morning and drove Dakota to meet her new foster Nancy Bowden. A "Thank You" to Kathy Carstensen for helping drive Sunday morning. It didn't take long for Mac to find out that life in New Jersey is pretty good.
We thank everyone that aided in this rescue. Only half of the dogs in this particular terrible situation were able to get out. We hope that the others will soon find a warm bed and comfy couch like the new GFNJ boys...

Here is a photo of Cairo and Buddy. Both were adopted through GFNJ. Both are doing well. Cairo has become a real social butterfly. He has to walk up to everyone who comes near him to say hi. Buddy is starting to finally relax a bit and usually is right beside Cairo when people are around to say hello also. He is still deathly afraid of thunder though.
Mike & Linda Patchus

FROSTY WINTER, now known as Franny, thinks she made a good decision entering the adoption program.
Adopters Anthony & Toni Ann Moschello are pretty happy with the whole adoption thing, too!

Sassy River loves her new adoptive home - and the wardrobe that came with it!
