2008 Annual Earth Day Celebration - Washington Township
Please join GFNJ for this event - vendors, food and activities! Events will be held outdoors and will include exhibits, seminars, demonstrations, music, live animals and many more fun things to promote conservation, preservation, environmental education and an enjoyment of being outdoors.
The following items will be collected for re-use and recycling during Earth Day: batteries (no larger than 4" x 4"), cell phones, eyeglasses, hearing aids, printer cartridges, spring plants (will be replanted at Washington Lake Park) & used postage stamps.
Free Norway Spruce and White Pine Seedlings will be distributed, courtesy of the Washington Township Environmental Commission
 Raindate is Sunday, April 20th.

Every Sunday, weather permitting, there's an informal Greyhound Walk around Van Saun Park in Paramus. The longest distance we walk is just under 2 miles, but it's easy to bail out at anytime if you or your pooch is pooped. And speaking of pooped... here's the details:
Bring: Something to pick up the poop.

There are lots of trails to choose from, and, GFNJ volunteer, Nancy Barnett will provide us with maps of the area, so there are different trails available for any e-bodied greyhound.
We will be meeting in the Parking Lot at the Main Entrance at 10 AM every Sunday morning. Please log on to the Merrill Creek website for directions.
We will be walking through woods and fields and there are also several watering holes for the hounds to drink and swim.
Please bring water for you and your hound and dress you and your hound appropriately. Bug spray is also recommended for this time of year.

NOTE: Although this is a rain or shine event for Cook College, GFNJ will only attend if it is NOT raining at 9am.

On April 27, Dog Owners Gathering Society (D.O.G.S.) of Vernon, NJ, as part of Vernon's Earthfest celebration, will give dogs and their owners what they hope will be a delicious treat: A foretaste of the dog park they plan to build on 90 acres of open space off Sandhill Road.
The park will be located on Sandhill Rd between Holy Counselor Lutheran Church and the Montessori School across from Drew Road.
Parking will be at the Lutheran Church for this event.
Greyhound Friends NJ has been invited to hold a Meet & Greet at the event. There will be other Rescue groups there as well as demonstrations from FEMA Search & Rescue, Seeing Eye Dogs, Agility Dogs, Obedience Dogs and Therapy Dogs. It promises to be a very educational and enjoyable event for people who love dogs.
The hours are from 12 -6 pm and all volunteers are greatly appreciated.

REMINDERS ABOUT DOGGIE ETIQUETTE
All dogs must wear a current rabies tag
Dogs must be at least 4 months of age
No flexi or extended leashed please
Keep your dog on a leash at all times
Please do not bring a dog whose behavior may be dangerous to others. Some dogs are happier at home and may not enjoy this event.
Event officials reserve the right to refuse entry to animal with questionable behavior.
Please take shorter walk for very young and older dogs.
Use your judgment.
GFNJ is attending this event as a vendor - we do not receive any of the monies collected through the Walkathon. Although this is a rain or shine event, GFNJ will only attend if it is not raining.

For only $10 a family of four (admission for adults is $3/children are $2) can watch a BMX Stunt Show, build a birdhouse complements of Home Depot, witness an illusionist and eat fare from Outback Steakhouse, Applebees or Charlie Browns.
This won't happen at the mall or a local carnival, but it will happen at Edison's 18th Annual Family Day Against Drugs and Violence.
The event, which takes on the air of a festival, is designed to bring families and Edison residents together for a day filled with fun, food, games and health information.
This year it will be held on Sunday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center, 97 Sunfield Ave. in Raritan Center.
GFNJ will have a table at this event - we could use help from volunteers and their greys to show off how wonderful greyhounds are!!!

From Philadelphia:
Use the Atlantic City Expressway to the Egg Harbor city exit #17. Left onto route 50 north, right onto route 30. Go two traffic lights and look for our billboard on your right, after seeing the billboard turn left on to Bremen Ave and Route 674. Then, go 2 ¼ miles to the Tuscany House on your left or Renault Winery on your right.
From North Jersey:
Garden State parkway south to exit 44. Take 2 immediate right turns onto Alt. 561 (Moss mill road). Follow signs five miles to Bremen Avenue. Turn right at the wine barrel onto Bremen Avenue. Follow to Tuscany House on your left or Renault Winery on your right.
From Atlantic City:
Route 30 West approximately 16 miles to Bremen Avenue. Look for large Champagne bottle on the right as a landmark. turn right on to Bremen ave and route 674 and follow 2 ¼ miles to Tuscany House on the left or Renault Winery on right.
From South Jersey:

Every Sunday, weather permitting, there's an informal Greyhound Walk around Van Saun Park in Paramus. The longest distance we walk is just under 2 miles, but it's easy to bail out at anytime if you or your pooch is pooped. And speaking of pooped... here's the details:

Come and join us every Sunday morning at 9 AM at the Merrill Creek Reservoir for a walk around Merrill Creek!!
There are lots of trails to choose from, and, GFNJ volunteer, Nancy Barnett will provide us with maps of the area, so there are different trails available for any e-bodied greyhound.
We will be meeting in the Parking Lot at the Main Entrance at 10 AM every Sunday morning. Please log on to the Merrill Creek website for directions.
We will be walking through woods and fields and there are also several watering holes for the hounds to drink and swim.
Please bring water for you and your hound and dress you and your hound appropriately. Bug spray is also recommended for this time of year.
