Calling All Passaic and Bergen County Greyhounds for the weekly Sunday Greyhound Walk.
Every Sunday, weather permitting, there's an informal Greyhound Walk around Van Saun Park in Paramus. The longest distance we walk is just under 2 miles, but it's easy to bail out at anytime if you or your pooch is pooped. And speaking of pooped... here's the details:
Bring: Something to pick up the poop.

There are lots of trails to choose from, and, GFNJ volunteer, Nancy Barnett will provide us with maps of the area, so there are different trails available for any e-bodied greyhound.
We will be meeting in the Parking Lot at the Main Entrance at 10 AM every Sunday morning. Please log on to the Merrill Creek website for directions.
We will be walking through woods and fields and there are also several watering holes for the hounds to drink and swim.
Please bring water for you and your hound and dress you and your hound appropriately. Bug spray is also recommended for this time of year.

4th of July Parade, Asbury Park, NJ

Join GFNJ in celebrating the 4th of July !
GFNJ has been invited to participate in the Asbury Park 4th of July Parade.
Weather: As of this moment, it looks like high temperatures will be a relatively comfortable 80-82 degrees. There's a possibility of some sporadic drizzle throughout the day, which shouldn't pose any problem (in fact, a little sprinkle might be to our benefit).
Meeting: As mentioned previously, all are invited to meet at Jeremy & Larry's house as a base camp between 11 and 11:30am (1120 Second Avenue). If you need directions, please contact Jeremy or Larry.
Line-Up Position: Our line number is #22. For the benefit of those who decide to meet us at the actual line-up place, we will be situated at the corner of Grand Avenue and Summerfield Avenue facing Wesley Lake.
Parade Route: The parade runs down Cookman Avenue, up Main Street, and then up Fifth Avenue along Sunset Lake, finally ending at Convention Hall. If you're not familiar with Asbury, city blocks are only a short distance apart -- even shorter than New York City's east-west numbered streets in most cases.
Times: We must be at our line-up position at 12noon. The parade begins sharply at 1:00pm.
Cars: Either Larry or Jeremy will forego the actual marching to make sure that there are at least 2 vehicles parked near our finishing post so we can get the pooches back with little hassle.
Afterward: As mentioned previously, all are invited back to Jeremy & Larry's house after the parade to give the dogs (and us) some rest in the A/C, as well as snacks. Joyce is making her patented "Frosty Paws," and we'll have other goodies as well. No obligation -- but the invitation is wide open.

We will be very careful to make sure that the weather is not too hot for the greys (and people) to safely march. Jeremy and Larry have several ideas for keeping greyhounds cool - the parade is also not far from the ocean on a tree lined street, so we are hoping for cooling breezes and shade.

We will be walking through woods and fields and there are also several watering holes for the hounds to drink and swim.

Come away with us this July to the cool Finger Lakes for a long weekend of wine tasting and gorgeous scenery in a one-of-a-kind greyhound event.
The Grapehound Wine Tour has joined with Greyhound Friends of New Jersey to offer a great weekend of fun and wine tasting with your favorite four-legged friend(s). Sixteen wineries open their doors to your greyhound and you from Thursday, July 24th to Sunday, July 27th, 2008.
For a $25 ticket, the weekend features cookouts, wine tasting, concerts with your hound under the stars, two ice cream socials, and a walk to 215 ft. Taughannock Falls, the tallest waterfall in the Northeast, where a professional photographer waits to take a portrait of you and your greyhound(s). Our hotels have discounted your room and waived all pet fees. And your greyhound is welcome at every event.
Did we mention the wine tasting part?
Best of all, part of the proceeds of this fantastic weekend go to GFNJ.

Calling All Passaic and Bergen County Greyhounds for the weekly Sunday Greyhound Walk.
Every Sunday, weather permitting, there's an informal Greyhound Walk around Van Saun Park in Paramus. The longest distance we walk is just under 2 miles, but it's easy to bail out at anytime if you or your pooch is pooped. And speaking of pooped... here's the details:
Bring: Something to pick up the poop.

L'Oreal Because Your Dog is Worth It Day

5th Annual L'Oreal "Because Your Dog Is Worth It Day"
A few of the events include doggie costume contest/beauty pagent, hay maze for dogs, dog swimming pool, dog wash, Christmas photos with Santa, doggie time out area, dog caricatures, and much more.
GFNJ had a table at this event last year and it was lots of fun and good attendance. Dogs MUST be “other dog” friendly, as this is a day for dogs and their owners, so many other breeds of dogs are present — both large and small.
Adult admission is $10. All proceeds collected by the event organizers go to benefit the Susan G Koman Race for the Cure.

Exit onto Scudders Mill Road
Go 4.5 miles and turn SLIGHT LEFT onto Dey Road
Go ½ mile and turn LEFT onto US 130 North

From the NJ Turnpike
Take Exit 8A and bear right towards Cranbury after the toll
Merge onto NJ-32 West toward US-130 Cranbury/So. Brunswick
Go 1 mile and turn LEFT onto US 130 South
Turn RIGHT at the 2nd light onto Broadway Road
From the Garden State Parkway
Take Exit 109 to CR 520 West/Newman Springs Rd.
CR 520 becomes Texas Road. Continue to follow Texas Road
Stay STRAIGHT to go onto Matchaponix Avenue, which becomes CR 612 West
Turn LEFT onto CR 612 West. CR 612 West becomes NJ 32 West
Turn LEFT onto US 130 South
Turn RIGHT onto Broadway Road

Come and join us every Sunday morning at 9 AM at the Merrill Creek Reservoir for a walk around Merrill Creek!!
There are lots of trails to choose from, and, GFNJ volunteer, Nancy Barnett will provide us with maps of the area, so there are different trails available for any e-bodied greyhound.
We will be meeting in the Parking Lot at the Main Entrance at 10 AM every Sunday morning. Please log on to the Merrill Creek website for directions.
We will be walking through woods and fields and there are also several watering holes for the hounds to drink and swim.
Please bring water for you and your hound and dress you and your hound appropriately. Bug spray is also recommended for this time of year.
