Calling All Passaic and Bergen County Greyhounds for the weekly Sunday Greyhound Walk.
Every Sunday, weather permitting, there's an informal Greyhound Walk around Van Saun Park in Paramus. The longest distance we walk is just under 2 miles, but it's easy to bail out at anytime if you or your pooch is pooped. And speaking of pooped... here's the details:
Bring: Something to pick up the poop.

Come and join us every Sunday morning at 9 AM at the Merrill Creek Reservoir for a walk around Merrill Creek!!
There are lots of trails to choose from, and, GFNJ volunteer, Nancy Barnett will provide us with maps of the area, so there are different trails available for any e-bodied greyhound.
We will be meeting in the Parking Lot at the Main Entrance at 10 AM every Sunday morning. Please log on to the Merrill Creek website for directions.
We will be walking through woods and fields and there are also several watering holes for the hounds to drink and swim.
Please bring water for you and your hound and dress you and your hound appropriately. Bug spray is also recommended for this time of year.

A few of the events include doggie costume contest/beauty pagent, hay maze for dogs, dog swimming pool, dog wash, Christmas photos with Santa, doggie time out area, dog caricatures, and much more.
GFNJ had a table at this event last year and it was lots of fun and good attendance. Dogs MUST be “other dog” friendly, as this is a day for dogs and their owners, so many other breeds of dogs are present — both large and small.
Adult admission is $10. All proceeds collected by the event organizers go to benefit the Susan G Koman Race for the Cure.

Come on out for a Victorian style Meet & Greet on Saturday, September 12th from 9 am until 4 pm in Belvidere, NJ for the 22nd annual Victorian Days!
See more certified historic and Victorian structures per square mile than any other New Jersey town; vintage & classic car show to knock your socks off; live entertainment; food; music; vendors!
This is not a stressful day for any of us. "Home base" is at Nancy's small front yard that is a block off the town green, so you can come and go to the square where the festivities are held - that means you can participate at whatever level your dog is comfortable. Crowd-friendly dogs take turns walking the perimeter of the green (no dogs allowed on the green; motor vehicle traffic is also banned around the perimeter streets); meet & greet foot traffic from the front yard at Nancy's; or rest your dog off-leash in the shady, securely fenced in back yard.
Volunteers can chat with fellow volunteers, local townspeople, or mingle and greet some of the thousands of visitors to the event in our one-square mile Victorian town.
We have a stock of gorgeous reproduction Victorian hats for our dogs to wear and they get a lot of attention, which is excellent exposure for the greyhounds!
We also take turns "dog sitting" so everyone who wants to has a chance to visit the vendors on the green itself (antique and vintage cars are parked around the perimeter and can easily be checked out while strolling with your hound - the same for all of the wonderful food vendors!)
Nancy has plenty of chairs, blankets for the dogs, fresh water - and a bathroom for the volunteers! Please join us!
As always, one of the few things even more striking and heartwarming than a beautiful former racer now a loved companion, is LOTS of beautiful greyhounds and their proud owners! If you only have one dog who will participate but more than one adult attending, there are always volunteers who appreciate an extra hand.

Bergen Community College Holds Annual Greyhound Adoption Day, Sept. 16
Representatives from Greyhound Friends of New Jersey Inc will visit Bergen Community College for the annual Greyhound Adoption Day on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the lobby of the L-wing, Pitkin Education Center, 400 Paramus Road, Paramus. Members of the public are encouraged to attend and learn about ex-racing greyhound adoption. Representatives will answer questions about the breed and explain the adoption process.
Additionally, videos will be shown on racing greyhounds and their treatment.
The event’s chair, Bergen assistant professor Harold Kahn, owns two ex-racing greyhounds and is a member of Long Island Greyhound Transfer. Greyhound Adoption Day is co-sponsored by the College’s Office of Student Life and Department of Biology and Horticulture.

Come and join us every Sunday morning at 9 AM at the Merrill Creek Reservoir for a walk around Merrill Creek!!
There are lots of trails to choose from, and, GFNJ volunteer, Nancy Barnett will provide us with maps of the area, so there are different trails available for any e-bodied greyhound.
We will be meeting in the Parking Lot at the Main Entrance at 10 AM every Sunday morning. Please log on to the Merrill Creek website for directions.
We will be walking through woods and fields and there are also several watering holes for the hounds to drink and swim.
Please bring water for you and your hound and dress you and your hound appropriately. Bug spray is also recommended for this time of year.

Calling All Passaic and Bergen County Greyhounds for the weekly Sunday Greyhound Walk.
Every Sunday, weather permitting, there's an informal Greyhound Walk around Van Saun Park in Paramus. The longest distance we walk is just under 2 miles, but it's easy to bail out at anytime if you or your pooch is pooped. And speaking of pooped... here's the details:
Bring: Something to pick up the poop.

Greyhound Friends NJ has been participating in Warwick's Applefest for several years and have educated thousands of people each year on Greyhound adoption. With the exception of a small dog show, our dogs are the only animals allowed at the event.
This year we are hoping that volunteers step up to help spread the word. Although the traffic and parking can be tricky, the rewards are worth it.
