"For this season and every season, Black is the new Black.”  BLACK DOG SYNDROME According to Wikipedia - "One problem shelters are fighting to overcome is what they term "Big Black Dog Syndrome". Big black dogs are consistently the hardest dogs to place — even if they’re friendly, well trained, and in perfect health. This may be due to a number of factors, including fear stigma against certain breed types, attraction to ads and the fact that black dogs do not photograph as well as lighter coated ones, and the fact that black dogs are often portrayed as aggressive in film and on television. Organizations have started campaigns to educate the public about Black Dog Syndrome."   Currently, GFNJ has several gorgeous black greyhounds available for adoption, and 5 of the greys arriving this weekend are black. The brand new Summer 2009 Celebrating Greyhounds has an article "Doggie Discrimination - Black is beautiful". SUMMER REMINDER!!!   CHECK THOSE GATES!!! We recently got two calls that greyhounds got out of gates left open by lawn guys and in both cases the dogs were missing for about 12 hours. Please remember to check your gates before you let your greys out... we all have more yard activity in the summer and we need to pay more attention to keep our dogs safe.

Lori Kern wrote a great email called "Long Overdue Thank You" to Mark & Helene Schrager.  The Schragers had brought their therapy dog greyhound to visit Lori's husband Barry at Kessler Institute in 2005 while Barry recovered from a serious illness.  Lori recently found the Schrager's email address and thanked them for the visit.  We liked the email so much that we got permission from Lori and the Schrager's to put it up on the website.
