Foster Update -
We welcomed Superior Reality (Reese) back into our home after she had lived with an adoptive family for eight months.  She was very much loved by her main caregiver in the home and he reluctantly and sadly relinquished her to GFNJ.  Dynamics in the home changed, with an elderly family member, who suffers from dementia, moving into the home for full-time care giving. It is reported that she also snapped at another adult in the home after that person tried to wake up a sleeping Reese by putting her face in Reese's face. Of course, it is never recommended to surprise a sleeping dog as the dog may react in a defensive mode such as this.

Since returning to our foster home, we have tested her for space aggression. While she is muzzled and asleep, we have stood over her while she is lying on her dog bed. We've done this repeatedly, dozens and dozens of times, to test her reaction. Most times, she lifts her head to look at us; the remainder of the time, she is even more submissive by getting up and walking away to the next available open dog bed.  We have also tried testing her by siting next to her, as close as possible, when she is on her dog bed and we get the same reactions. We currently have three other greyhounds in the house;  two are our older, calm hounds and one is a foster.  She gets along with all three. Our other foster is not yet two years old; Reese lost patience with her one time when the other dog was over-excited about going outside and was getting in Reese's face.  On that occasion, Reese did snap at the other foster (both were muzzled).

We have two dog-friendly kids, ages 9 and 13, and Reese is very good with them. She also ignores our cats. Reese eats well and has had no accidents in the house; she walks very  well on a leash and sleeps through the night on a dog bed next to our bed.  While we are at work during the day, she and our two greyhounds are muzzled but not crated. She has done perfectly well uncrated when we are not at home. She has excellent manners and is very affectionate.

We feel that Reese recognizes the people in our house as the dominant leaders and she gives us that respect.  We know, as the cliche goes, to let sleeping dogs lie (unless you're testing them). We also know that Reese did well as an only dog and she does equally well sharing a home with our dogs.  Our conclusion is that, if adopted into a home with another dog or dogs, the ideal would be for them to be calm.  She will also do well in a home where the people set boundaries and establish themselves as the dominant pack leaders to be followed.

Reese is a wonderful greyhound. She is full of life and is highly intelligent. She has a calming air and is very loving. She will thrive in a home where the love she so generously gives is returned. We adore her.
Foster Update 2/26/2015
Superior Reality (Reese) has been an exceptional little lady and we are truly enjoying her company, as are our kids and two resident greyhounds.  Alas, the cats, not so much.  Over the last few weeks, Reese has developed a strong interest in the felines. She locks her sites on them and, if given the chance, would chase them. That said, Reese's adoptive home would do well without cats or other small animals.

She continues to charm us with her affections - Reese is a very snuggly girl.  She has perfect house manners (no accidents, no chewing, etc.) and has a humble calmness about her. We have taken her to several Meet & Greets where Reese enjoys a lot of attention,  hugs and pettings from strangers - she is the perfect greyhound ambassador.  She will also make the perfect addition to a loving home.

Superior Reality whose call name was "Reese" is the cutest little girl.  She was described by one of the volunteers as "the best little girl".  She politely plays, loves affection, is a tail wagger, loves butt rubs and follows directions very well--she wants to please.  Would do best without cats, walks great on leash.  This little girl is 3 years old.
Foster Update 4/7/2014

"Superior Reality" - how's that for a name?  This three-year-old girl, who goes by the call name "Reese," has endeared herself to her foster home; it includes two adults, two kids (ages 8 and 12), 2 hounds, 3 cats and a foster kitten.  That's right - even the cats have accepted her and, with our cats, that's saying something.

Reese has become Queen of the Stairs, climbing and descending easily.  She has also mastered our tile/wood/laminate floors and is a dream on a leash, though she does enjoy play time in our fenced yard, too.  She eats well and has had no accidents in the house.  Reese is polite and gets in her typical 18 hours of greyhound napping every day. While the adults from the home work full time outside the home, Reese is crated. She has had no issues with the crate. At night, she sleeps on a dog bed next to our bed.

This girl is quite spry and a jumper - she doesn't jump on people, but she does jump over our 3' baby gates without batting one of her pretty eyelashes. She will need someone committed to either (1) walking her a few times per day or  (2) someone with a 6' or more fence (her foster home has a 6' high PVC fence).  Our educated guess is that chain link fences would be no match for her.
Reese is a highly affectionate girl - she loves to give and get hugs and loves to lay on a dog bed in whatever room we're in. She is also very smart, as demonstrated by her curiosity.  While Reese quickly bonded with our hounds, I suspect she could also do well as an "only dog."

If you adopt her, be prepared to turn heads wherever you take her - she is an adorable beauty.  Also be prepared to welcome into your life a loving friend who will give you endless adoration and warm company. Superior Reality, indeed.
