About Winning Nico

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Color: Black

Winning Nico is an ADORABLE little boy.  He was described by his trainer as a "very special boy" who was a kennel favorite.  At first meeting, he is slightly reserved but he opens up and is just so adorable with a sweet personality.  He's a little "mooshy" boy.  He also walks great on leash.  Nico is 3 years old and is cat tolerant with supervision.

Foster Update 9/24/2014
This boy is such a winner that "Winning" is right there in his name!  Say hello to Winning Nico, a beautiful boy born on July 29, 2011.  He's on the smaller side for a male hound, but he has enormous heart.  Nico has a gorgeous, shiny coat. He's also adorned with a fluffy tail, which isn't often found on a greyhound. And boy, does he love to wag it (show off!).

Nico has been sharing his foster home with two dog-friendly children, ages 9 and 13, along with two greyhounds and three cats.  He is gentle and  welcoming to pettings from the children, plays and lounges (mostly lounges) with the hounds well and is not interested in the cats.   The two adults in the home work full time; while we are at work, Nico is crated and has done well with it. In fact, he loves his crate and can often be found lazing in it when we're home (when we're home, the door his open so he can come and go from it at will).  He takes great pleasure in people/hound/cat watching from the crate - AKA, the "dog cave" - to take it all in. Because Nico enjoys his crate, I recommend that his adopter provide him with one that he can go in-and-out of on his own.

Nico wins a gold star for cuddling. He loves to relax with his head on a lap as he gets caressed and massaged. He has mastered the stairs and our wood/tile/laminate flooring. He enjoys walks and is a gentleman on his leash.  When in our fenced-in yard, he loves to explore our gardens and run about.  He eats well and is fully house trained, having no accidents in the house.

Nico's curiosity is supported by his confident nature; he enjoys checking things out on his own and learns very quickly. In fact, he learned the stairs simply by watching how our hounds climbed and descended them.  He also settled in to the busy routine of our home without missing a beat.

Nico is incredibly sweet and has a laid-back personality.  We feel he will do well as either an only dog or could easily share a home with other dogs.  He has a happy, yet humble and calm, disposition.  He will add lots of love to the home he calls "forever."
