About Steve Harvey

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Color: Red

Steve Harvey (love his name sake)  is a very handsome boy. He's timid but not overly shy--he needs someone who will give him some TLC and be a little patient with him. He needs some time to realize that his new retirement life is going to be good. Are you and maybe your other greyhound/s willing to take this boy in, at least to foster him?  Steve Harvey will be 2 years old in November and he's cat tolerant with supervision.
Foster Update 10/13/2014

Look at this boy's face - such a cutie pie!  Steve Harvey is a young boy and will be celebrating his second birthday on November 8, 2014.

His disposition is somewhat shy, though he has been warming up to us more and more every day.  He is a very calm and quiet dog and enjoys lounging more than anything else. Steve has been quickly adjusting to house living. He learned the stairs immediately and has adjusted to the routine in our busy home.  Steve has been learning how to walk on a leash and has been making excellent strides. He is wary of strangers, but the more we get him and and about the neighborhood, the more confidence he gains.  Steve has also mastered our wood/tile/laminate flooring.

Steve gets along with our two greyhound - one is "bossy," the other very laid back. There are three cats and two dog-friendly children (ages 9 and 13) in our home. He wants nothing to do with two of our very active cats and hasn't seemed to notice our 20-year-old cat. He has warmed up to my kids and welcomes their petting him.  Steve eats well. He has shown no food aggression. On a similar note, he has also not shown any space aggression.

Over our first week fostering Steve, he has truly endeared himself to us.  He is cautious, but every day his confidence grows, as does his trust in us. Steve will do well with (an) adopter(s) that demonstrate confidence and that will allow him to take his time in learning his surroundings.  He will look to his adopter(s) for love and, as he is eager to please, guidance.  In return, he will bring to his new home a lifetime of warmth and love.
Foster Update 11/25/2014
11/25/2014 Foster Update
Steve has made several strides in his foster home. He's truly warmed up to us and is perfectly comfortable in our home with our busy family. He continues to completely ignore our cats and is good with our two dog-friendly kids.  He also enjoys our two greyhounds.  During his stay with us, we have hosted another foster greyhound. We were so proud to watch Steve show the new foster the ropes, leading him through the yard and house.

He is a very loving boy and welcomes our petting him, massages and kisses. His favorite thing is to be gently stroked and spoken to as he lounges. He also enjoys rides in the car - a good thing as we often take him out to further acclimate him with new surroundings and people.

Steve is a good eater and sleeps through the night on a dog bed next to our bed. He is crated while we are at work and enjoys the sanctity of it.  He has not displayed any separation anxiety; we feel this is because he has his crate and has the company of our dogs who recline on couches next to the crate all day. He also has not shown any space or food aggression.

Steve has made tremendous strides and continues working through his shyness. He is no longer shy in our home and we've noticed tremendous growth in his confidence. Over the weeks, he came to realize that it is a safe place. He has done well at the many meet-and-greets we've taken him to, working past his apprehension around strangers. The more events we take him to, the stronger his comfort level grows.

Steve is also improving on his leash walking, working through his concerns about the "outside world." We feel that he will do well in a home that will continue to show him patience as far as his apprehension to new things and life outside of the house and fenced yard. That said, we recommend that his forever home offer him a fenced yard, which will serve as a comfort zone where he is free to explore and roam. We also recommend that he be adopted to a home that includes a confident greyhound for Steve to look up to.

Adopting Steve could serve to be a very rewarding experience.  As his foster family, we've enjoyed the true beauty of witnessing this boy's spirit shine as his confidence climbs. He also reminds me of one of our own hounds who, in the early months, was also shy. Today, he is the pack leader - the wise one the other hounds look up to. I think we're only slightly more proud of him than he is of himself.  Steve will bring to his forever home that same glory of achievement. More importantly, he'll bring an extraordinary sense of love that stems from trust and dedication.

Steve is more than a shy hound - he's anticipated victory wrapped in love.
