About Par Opal

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Color: Red

Par Opal is a sweet, adorable, little "pocket greyhound".  She's friendly and a real cuddler who snuggled right into our laps.  She looks right into your eyes for direction. She was described by the track folks as "puppy cute but not shy".  She does look to the other greys and may do best with another greyhound.  Par Opal is 2 years old and cat tolerant with supervision.

Foster Update 10/11/14
Since joining our home a week ago, 2 year 4 month, adorable, petite Opal is settling in nicely. Each day Opal is more confident and comfortable with retirement.  She enjoys cuddles and snuggles.  She gets along great with our greyhound and our two pet birds (a cockatiel and a finch).  Opal likes stuffed toys and collects a few in her crate every day!  Opal is fun to take on walks and is happy to meet folks that pass.  She quickly got on board with our household routine and pottys on schedule.  She has been sleeping through the night and whimpers to wake me if she needs to go out.  Opal crates nicely during the day when I am at work.  (I have a spy camera on her and she is very peaceful in her crate—no restlessness or crying.)  At lunchtime she gets a potty, walk and companionship break and then re-crates for the afternoon easily.  When you meet Opal, you will see how easy it is to fall in love with her—she looks deeply into your eyes displaying a desire to connect and bond.  Oh my, I don’t think you could ask for more!
Foster Update 10/21/2014

Opal has been with our family for 2 ½ weeks now.   Our family consists of me (her foster mom), my husband, Gigi a Greyhound, Oreo a cat, a cockatiel and a finch.  Opal fits right in with everyone.  This week, I messaged with the kennel Opal came from and they tell me and her caretaker there tells me, “She was kind of shy but once she trusts she's a lap puppy! She smiles with the back part of her mouth so hard that her eyes will squint up!! I miss her tons and loved her to pieces.”  I knew she was loved lots...you can tell by her sweet demeanor!  Yes, Opal can be a bit shy once you meet her or when she first encounters a new situation, but within minutes she becomes more comfortable.  The other day I trimmed her nails while she rested on her bed.  She didn't mind at all.  Opal enjoys visits to PetSmart and enjoys meeting people and being doted upon!  When on neighborhood walks she greets passerby dogs and people very sweetly.  She spent time playing with a friend’s two Puggles in their yard and had a fun time with them.  At home with Gigi, she is somewhat reserved with play as she respects Gigi’s space, so it was nice to see her play uninhibited.  Opal has not had any accidents and is in sync with our household routine.  I am continuing to crate her while at work and she is continuing to crate easily.  Opal has the softest, velvety fur and true to her name she is a gem of a pup.
